Rahul Gandhi Vows to End CAPF ‘Discrimination’, Promises Reform

Rahul Gandhi Vows to End CAPF

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday greeted personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Valour Day and pledged that a Congress-led government would end what he termed a “discriminatory system” within the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).

In a message shared on X, Gandhi praised the courage and sacrifice of CRPF personnel, acknowledging their role in safeguarding the nation and maintaining internal security.

“Your courage and sacrifice protect our country every day. You confront terrorism and Naxalism and ensure that elections—the greatest festival of democracy—are conducted peacefully,” he said.

Marking CRPF Valour Day, observed annually on April 9, Gandhi said that true tribute to the forces must go beyond words and address long-standing institutional concerns.

He highlighted issues related to career progression, stating that CAPF personnel are often denied timely promotions and the opportunity to lead their own forces.

“Despite years of service and sacrifice, CAPF personnel do not receive the right to head their own forces, as top positions are reserved for officers from outside,” Gandhi noted.

Emphasising their expertise, Gandhi said personnel within CAPF possess specialised training, ground experience, and strategic insight, making it essential for leadership roles to be filled from within the system.

He also raised concerns over pay, welfare, and respect, calling the situation an “institutional injustice” that impacts morale.

“This is not just about promotions, but about justice and dignity for those who dedicate their lives to national security,” he added.

Reaffirming his party’s stance, Gandhi said the Congress holds CAPF personnel in the highest regard and promised reforms if voted to power.

“Upon coming to power, our government will end this discriminatory system and ensure CAPF personnel receive their full rights,” he said.

CRPF Valour Day commemorates the bravery of CRPF personnel during the 1965 battle at Sardar Post in the Rann of Kutch, where a small contingent of Indian forces successfully repelled a major attack.
